Slip Knot, Chains, and Stitches!!! (…in the context of crocheting, of course)

I found this picture of me on my friend’s Facebook with the caption, “Teaching her granny hobby =)” … -__-  Apparently, it’s extremely easy to take phone photos without your subject’s knowledge.  Kinda scary. :(  However, it didn’t even occur to me that I should blog about this experience until I found the photo she uploaded, so I guess I’m thankful. :P  

My Friday night was spent at my friend’s house, teaching her niece how to crochet!  LOL I’m such a party animal…  >.<

This little girl has been wanting to learn for a while, so I decided to take her to Michaels (it was her first time ever going!!!) to buy her a crochet hook and yarn in her favorite color.  In no time at all, she learned how to tie a slip knot and make chain stitches.  The uniformity of her stitches and her tension control drastically improved with just a little bit of practice.  Most people want to skip the basics and move on to the “fun part” after a few minutes, but she stuck with it and was totally getting satisfaction out of seeing her own improvement.  I was very impressed with her patience and determination!  We turned her first string of chain stitches into a headband, and she excitedly started working on more chain stitches so that she could turn them into another accessory!

My friend texted me to say that her niece hasn’t stopped practicing the chain stitch since I taught her.  LOL I think someone’s been bitten by the crocheting bug… and at such a young age!  Yayyyy!!! ^___^  Next time, I’ll probably teach her the slip stitch and single crochet.  I think she aims to learn amigurumi!! *happy dance!*

Sharing our hobbies with kids is so rewarding; let’s keep the joy of crafting alive in future generations! :)
