Girl Scouts gives me an excuse to do random, fun craft projects… but I promise that’s not all we do. :P
Our troop is participating in Thinking Day, an event structured around celebrating diversity and learning about other cultures! My little K-1 Daisies will be representing Japan, so they have to host a booth and present a craft, a game, and a taste from Japan. They’ll be teaching others about Japanese culture and about the three things that they’re presenting at the booth.
They’ll be making their own flower hair pieces for the event, so I just whipped up a 5-min demo to show them how easy it is to make! I bought a bunch of fake flowers from the 99-cent store and threw those together with some stuff I found at home to make this hair ornament. I had many extra flowers, so I just took them to tonight’s meeting to use as prizes. Each girl received a flower after successfully taking turns to teach others how to make an origami puppy. I can’t wait to see the girls wearing the hair pieces that they make at home! ^___^
We also worked on making SWAPS (pins that they’ll be able to trade with other Girl Scouts at the event) at the meeting. Fabric glue + 5&6 yr olds = messy business!!! @__@
I hope I remember to take pictures on Thinking Day! :D
P.S. sorry for the poor lighting… we have yet to replace a few light bulbs at home. :P
