Gingerbread Man Fail? Haha

Alright, here’s the story.  My friend’s friend is a father-to-be, so she’s been thinking about the perfect gift to get him. :)  His favorite childhood book was The Gingerbread Man, so she decided to purchase the book for his new baby and also asked me to crochet a gingerbread man to go along with it.  I was somewhat hesitant at first because I’ve never attempted a flat character before, but I figured it would be a fun challenge.  Fast forward to a few nights ago: I was trying to put the finishing touches on this man-cookie and realized that gingerbread men kinda scare me!  Is that weird?? :(  No matter what face I tried to make, it looked really, really creepy.  I felt like it was going to come to life and eat me or something… another friend even suggested that I attach red lights behind the eyes so that it will glow.  LOL I couldn’t help but imagine the poor little baby waking up to a demonic gingerbread man in the middle of the night.  I would be traumatized for life!  Agh. :(  So yes, I’m going to bring the unfinished amigurumi to my friend’s place so that we can decide on a face together.  LOL now I won’t be solely responsible for traumatizing a baby.  Hahaha omg I fail.  Here’s to hoping the baby won’t feel the same way I do about human-shaped cookies. 

Here’s a picture of my few attempts at a face.  The book’s gingerbread man had blue eyes, but HOLY CRANBERRIES that looked even creepier to me. :(

Update — January 2012:

Yup, still creepy.  Haha.  However, my friend’s friend loved him!  Pictures were posted on Facebook featuring the new dad reading The Gingerbread Man while his baby son and amigurumi man-cookie sat on his lap!  Cuuuuute!  <3  At least they liked it… :P
